ভূমিকম্প প্রবণ এলাকাগুলোকে সিসমিক রিস্ক জোন (Seismic risk zome) বলে। ১৯৮৯ সালে ফরাসি ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং কনসোর্টিয়াম বাংলাদেশের ভূমিকম্প বলয় সম্বলিত মানচিত্র তৈরি করে। এ মানচিত্রে বাংলাদেশকে তিনটি প্রধান বলয়ে ভাগ করা হয়। আর এ বলয়গুলোকে একসাথে বলা হয় "সিসমিক রিস্ক জোন" যদি ও না ইঘইঈ-২০২০ তে এটা কে এর মাত্রায় উপর ভিক্তি করে ৪ ভাগে ভাগ করা হয়েছে যা। 1.Low (Zone 1) 2.Modetate (Zone II) 3. হাইড্রোজেন সালফাইড (H₂S) একটি বর্ণহীন, পচা ডিমের গন্ধযুক্ত গ্যাস। এটা বাতাসের থেকে ভারী, বিষাক্ত, ক্ষয়কারক, দাহ্য ও বিস্ফোরক পদার্থ। জলাশয় ও স্যাঁতসেঁতে স্থানে অক্সিজেনের অনুপস্থিতিতে জৈব পদার্থের ব্যাকটেরিয়া ভাঙ্গনে হাইড্রোজেন সালফাইড উৎপন্ন হয়। পানিতে হাইড্রোজেন সালফাইডের উপস্থিতির কারণে পানিতে দুর্গন্ধের সৃষ্টি হয়।

কাপ্তাই হ্রদ বাংলাদেশের পার্বত্য চট্টগ্রাম অঞ্চলে রাঙামাটি জেলার একটি কৃত্রিম হ্রদ। কর্ণফুলী পানি বিদ্যুৎ কেন্দ্রের জন্য ১৯৫৬ সালে কর্ণফুলী নদীর উপর কাপ্তাই বাঁধ নির্মাণ করা হয়।
